Hovercap

Privacy Policy

Effective October 18, 2026

Hovercap is a Chrome extension that shows the video playing on a web page in an always-on-top floating window, with its captions and playback controls.

The short version

Hovercap does not collect, store, send or sell any personal data. It has no servers, no analytics and no tracking, and it makes no network requests of its own.

What Hovercap reads, and when

Hovercap only runs on a tab when you ask it to, by clicking its toolbar button or pressing its keyboard shortcut. On that tab it reads, locally in your browser:

None of this leaves your device, and none of it is kept after the floating window closes.

What Hovercap stores

Hovercap saves two preferences: whether captions are shown, and the caption size. They are saved with Chrome's extension storage. If you use Chrome sync, Chrome syncs these two settings across your own signed-in browsers. We have no access to them.

Permissions

Hovercap does not request access to all websites and cannot run on a page you haven't activated it on.

Support requests

If you contact us through the support form, we receive the email address and message you enter. We use them only to answer you, and the form is hosted by Google Forms. This is separate from the extension, which never sends us anything.

Third parties

Hovercap shares no data with anyone. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google or any website it works on.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
